Michael Sappington is the CEO of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan-based gloStream, Inc., an electronic medical records (EMR) solutions provider.  Sappington is responsible for developing and implementing the company’s business strategies and overseeing day-to-day operations.  He also manages the gloStream software research and development team located in India.

Sappington has more than 20 years experience with fast-growing technology companies as an entrepreneur, senior leader and visionary.  A decade ago, as partner and COO of Michigan-based Netrex Secure Solutions, Sappington took part in pioneering and developing a platform for managed security services for the Internet. At a time when businesses were just beginning to consider the implications of connecting to an online network, Sappington’s vision positioned security as the enabler for the successful use of the Internet. His efforts helped establish the confidence in e-commerce that underpins consumer and business online activities today.

With a vision to bring powerful managed security services to a market that needed to protect its business investments in Internet and intranet systems, Sappington helped build Netrex into one of the world’s largest managed security services companies.  During his tenure, the company experienced tremendous growth, doubling revenue each year while obtaining a reputation as a leading security solutions provider among Fortune 500 companies.  Netrex was eventually purchased by Internet Security Systems (ISS), which is now part of IBM.  It remains one of the largest managed security services firms across the globe.

Prior to joining Netrex, Sappington held sales and senior management positions at Aangstrom Precision Corp., a software development and services company for the oil and gas industry.  Aangstrom revolutionized oil and gas exploration by pioneering subsurface visualization techniques using large database systems. The data was captured by recording seismic waves created by small controlled underground explosions.  While at Aangstrom, Sappington serviced global industry leaders such as Shell, Texaco and Mobil.  His understanding of databases has been vital to the development of gloStream’s EMR product for the medical profession.

Sappington received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich.  He is an active angel investor and currently serves on the board of directors of Truarx, a Farmington Hills, Mich.-based security management services company.
